Buttered Soul is so HARD

i only have this 1969 album on vinyl because that's how a hard motherfucker like myself rolls, By-The-Crate. I do however have a track for ya to bugg out too, to slip back on the sofa or to lay low in the lincoln. This piece is hard, Isaac Hayes came back with a 4-track album that put previous albums to shame, and paved the road for other musicians to follow. The title of the track is Walk on By , on vinly it's over 12 minutes long, soaring like a laid-back-eagle. Some of you may alread know about this soultastic shit. I unfortunatley only have the 4.5 minute version, but nonetheless, download this True Soul Classic and relax like you got mono!

MONO can suck a dick

That's right, now i finally can lay at peace with what the fucks been wrong with me for the last couple weeks, i have mono, the infamous virus that has plagued my body with severe pain, lethargy, and exaggerated fatigue . . . not to mention my right swollen tonsel that feels like a fuckin' ulcer in my throat (i know that pain, a few years back i had a full-blown ulcer in my esophogus!) So, i will try to keep posting even though i feel like hibernating in my crawl space for the next month. Last year i got SHINGLES, this year its mono . . . can't wait for summer of 09!!
On a positive tip:

a change in his attitude. "He's become tougher, like a teenager,"
she said. It struck me that kids aren't allowed to be kids anymore.

CFF 5-Part .Series begins

The following 5 weeks i will be unleashing my 5-part series of the CFF Beat i worked on for over 9 straight weeks. I have revised, and revised once again, so the pieces will be as such. Keep up and don't sleep on this series, here's the first one:

Some gangs deal drugs and guns, others loot and steal, and some pull drive-bys in low riders. In Portland, the CFF gang plays pinball. Crazy Flipper Fingers is their name, and instead of packing gats, they pack quarters.

They don’t flash gang signs, yet the CFF members do flaunt their colors by wearing an emblem of a skull with two flippers and a pinball on vests, jackets, or shirts making sure they’re visible to possible opponents.

The recognized trio of letters is strikingly evident on many pinball games throughout the city representing exceptionally high scores. At the mighty arcade known as Ground Kontrol, practically every pinball machine has the CFF initials posted on its digital display.

Star Trek - CFF - five billion plus. Road Work - CFF - 8 billion plus. The list endlessly continues as if the gang showed up like the Hells Angels in Hollister, California and slaughtered every pinball game with merciless flipper control and heavy endurance.

CFF is more than just a local pinball gang claiming numerous victories in various competitions, they have been involved in the annual pinball tournament at Shorty’s in Seattle and even the national pinball championships in Pittsburgh held every year drawing upon pinball zealots from around the world. Their initials can be found from coast to coast no thanks to one member, Bounceback, who happens to roadie for Modest Mouse and enabling him to put scores up across the states.

Portland is actually known across the country for its pinball decadence that inhabits the city in a cloak of flippers, fingers and initials. “The city is a Mecca for pinball,“ said John Wray, one of the pioneers of CFF who goes by “Tilt“.

One time at the Pittsburgh tournament, a competitor exclaimed in nervousness how CFF member, Danny aka Backglass, hailed from the pinball Mecca. It continues to frequently draw on outsiders while initiating friendly frenzies between fellow CFF members whose demeanor reflects wild hyenas on a kill with vigorous shouts.

Whether it be dives, pubs, or sports bars, pinball is alive and well thriving in the Rose City while the CFF increases its membership to almost 20 locals, driving home the impression that they are a notorious pinball gang to be reckoned with. “Once your in, your in. CFF til’ death!” declares John.

Villian of Wednesday

Today's Villian is: The hand up Mona Lisa's skirt.
Also known as John Milton, the charming but deadly Lawyer from The Devils Advocate who happens to be the Devil himself endorsing his favorite sin: Vanity. Within the film Milton applies just enough wit to his protoge' hoping to bring upon a mighty boxing match between Heaven and Hell. Milton is malicious, cunning and "a fan of man." Check the following clip:

Quotes from the past translate to the present

"Terrorism is perpetrated by the ruling class and its government on the people. Terrorism is Black children shot down in the street. It is the SWAT in Los Angeles and search-and-destroy in Vietnam. It is the daily brutality for millions of Americans and the even harsher brutality for those who imperialism exploits in the Third World."
-The Weather Underground Organization

Chew on that one and go ahead and replace:
-SWAT with Homeland Security
-LA with your cities
-Vietnam with Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama is getting pressed

I found these Sons of Liberty tees online at Karmaloop, i'm not sure what to think of them all yet, i mean i'm down with Obama and all, i'm down with people peddling tacky Obama tee-shirts on Killingsworth and MLK in the hood and all. Some of these tees are cool, but this shit is still bizarre to me, Obama is on that fashion-tip i guess.

*Hillary, you went wrong by not endorsing fashion!

Oldominion - 10yrs in the making

For those of you who don't know of Oldominion, they're a massive hiphop Northwest cult 2-dozen deep chalk-full of producers, rappers and djs. Individuals of Oldominion have gone onto starting various side-projects that have been quite successful (Grayskul-Rhymesayers), remaining in the tradition of steady slaying.

Hailing from Seattle and Portland, this crew is celebrating their 10yr Anniversary on June 13th @ Berbatis here in Rose City. I strongly urge people to check this show, even if it's their first time hearing of Oldominion, they have a sound unlike no other. They're maniacal on stage delivering a henious blow to your psyche while maintaining a deafening swagger that inhibits any doubt of their insatiable appetite for performing.

Bishop I will stomp you, JFK will bleed you, Barfly will booze you, Onry will metal you, Sleep with run you, Syndel will seduce you, Anaxagorus will bite you, Pale Soul will burn you, NyQwil will subdue you, Rochester will drink you, Snafu will napalm you, Zeb will beat you . . . the list goes on, just come to the show!!

My first experience with Oldominion was at the Seattle Paradox on University Ave (rip) around 1999 where they were clad in owl-masks (see image below) on stage furiously wrecking the mic. Before i knew it, members standing in front of me on the floor jumped to the stage and started going absolutely nuts, bouncing around and shouting to the crowd. There must've been 12 members in all, they looked like the Wu-Tang Clan of the Pacific Northwest and firmly held my attention grounding me in the web of their stunning style, passion and raw talent. Since then, i have never stopped listening to them, seeking out their music and promoting them like a fuckin' Oldominion junkie.

Here are some of my favorite tracks for you:

View Items - Onry, Nyqwil
Parallel to Hell - JFK, Syndel, Smoke, Pale, Sleep
Vampires - Onry, Nyqwil
Who Alone - Rochester AP
2 Days in Seattle - Rochester AP
Pleasantville - Norman (Onry, Barfly)
Human Traffic - Norman
I can't live w/o my Ghettoblaster - Norman
Last Wish - Sleep feat. Mako, Snafu, Toni Hill, Onry
Venom - Onry feat. Toni Hill
Fear is the Mind Killer - Pale Soul feat. Toni Hill
Our Fist - Pale Soul feat. Nyqwil, JFK
Good as it gets - Snafu
Change - Snafu feat. Toni Hill
Long Road - Dim Mak (Bishop I, Gash)

10th Anniversary of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

This superb film was released May 22nd 1998 and i was fortunate to see it within a few weeks on the big screen. I don't want to go into a synopsis of the film - if you haven't seen it then you are asleep at the wheel - so redeem yourself by endulging in a bizarre journalistic drug-laden spectacle of just how far the mind, body and soul can endure while in search of The American Dream.

Based on the actual notes and stories of Hunter, Fear and Loathing was printed in Rolling Stone (my dad owns these originals!) as a two-part series under the alias Raoul Duke along with the infamous illustrations by Ralph Steadman. If you know me, you know how enthralled i am with HST, how inspirational he is to my writing and how i pursue Gonzo Journalism with an uncanny lust. With that being said, Hunter is a fuckin' G (see my previous post in Feb. reflecting on the anniversary of his life).

Lil Wayne comes hard!

His new album: The Carter III which was suppose to be released in 07 leaked to cyberspace thanks to the Great North! This release is sick indeed, Wayne kills the mic with supreme rants and lyrics, rapping about yeast infections, the fact he is a martian from Planet Weezy, and how you can swallow his words! Serious though, this album is solid (way better than priors). The Carter features tracks produced by Swizz Beatz, Kanye, The Alchemist, Wyclef, David Banner and others. I've been listening to it all day, thankyou SDTW for holding it down once again like you always do! Now go download the 17 tracks, bump it, and swallow it!

Chaplin is a gangster!

Watch Charlie Chaplin's work (self-produced) for yourself and get learned! A fuckin' G:

check his myspace page here - Chaplin Moneybags

Get learned!

To all you late bloomers, De La Soul's debut release: 3 Feet High & Rising was a definitive etch on hiphop leaving a mark that defined them as a dynamic all-out-rap group. This was of course during the Golden Era.

De La came through hard like Lee and Lady Pink (ya kno dem legends?), around the same time as the Jungle Brothers and Tribe (together the trio was The Native Tongues). I can't imagine what it must've been like in NYC when this album dropped. I'm sure stoops were buggin' off the music and heads were bobbin and weavin while the shorty was gettin' learned!

Just the artwork alone was off the wall for hiphop, De La was on this stay-fresh-while-not-giving-a-fuck-tip that illustrated their energy and lyricism. Anybody that likes hiphop, should listen to this album, in fact, they should own it, and know what's up. However, that's not always the case these days, so why not give a little back to the youngsters and remind the old school heads of a classic that really needs no introduction by me. 3 Feet High and Rising speaks for itself, now get learned!
