Atmosphere Clothing going strong in PDX

Portland's clothing lines are few and far between, and any existing labels are wack, however, i recently ran across Atmosphere located along Hawthorne Ave in SE and am amazed by the product they are pushing! Even though they make clothes geared toward Snowboarders (beanies, gloves, pants, jackets) they supply a variety of threads for the common hipster to the common fashion admirer. I am pretty stoked on these guys and hope to see their development over the next couple seasons onto spring and summer. Judging by their prices for sweatshirts, i feel that Atmoshpere is pushing for quality goods displaying the material their clothes are made out of on their web site. Soon i hope to be sporting some threads by Atmosphere, til then, check them out for yourself right -- HERE --
Freshness is a Must:

Rappers of the Sabbath continues

R.O.T.S. really needs a revival, and i'm completely aware of this, so today, this Sunday, i proudly present to you one of the finest hiphop albums of ALL time: Slum Village - Fantastic, vol. 2 (please applaud right now like your at a hype rap show)
Composed of T3, Jay Dee (yes, Jdilla) and Baatin hailing from De-the-fuck-troit, Slum Village released this unbelievable album in early 2K. If you're a Slum fan, then you own this album and rock it weekly, if not, you're either sick with the emo/screamo disease, snorting rails to spastic disco breaks in your girlfriend's basement, or too distracted by todays SHIT-RAP. Whatever the cause may be, Fantastic vol. 2 is a GOLDEN concept from intro to ending.
Since Jay Dee happens to produce the entire album and lends his vocal talent, it is a soulful journey into the den of hiphop held up by musicians that give a damn how hiphop sounds, featuring Jazzy Jeff (I Don't Know), D'Angelo , Q-Tip, Busta, Pete Rock, even fuckin' Kurupt.
The 19 tracks should be listened to from start to finish like a Mayfield's CURTIS album of 1970...a true gem!
The Detroit trio caress the tracks with sincerity and relaxing tones while performing like a Doo Wop crew at times (listen to track 2U4U). "Fuck this rap shit I listen to classical" is one of my favorite lines of the album, proving their loyalty to the roots of hiphop by proclaiming their love (Fall in Love).
The entire album goes from head swaying, to anthem jumping, onto grooves that simply illustrate how much of a cohesive group they happen to be. They combine their vocals in a rhythmic concoction that does however lack lyrical skills, but Slum makes up for that fact by re-enforcing their genuine talent of being a fluid trio who keeps tone, pitch and rhythm at the forefront of their style and technique. They make your head knod and hips move like the 60s soul-makers.
What else can i say, Slum Village raised the bar of hiphop at a time when the Golden Era was closing out and the glitz was coming in. Listen to Fantastic vol. 2 and dance!

Michael Vick was busted for dog-fighting at his compound named: Bad News Kennels (seriously). The latest news is that he's filing for Bankruptcy while locked up...what a bitch ass! Even when he's released, he'll never regain his image, endorsements and chances to play in the nfl. That's a bummer man

Late news but news worthy news!

July 31st, 2008 courtesy of: CBC News National News
Man decapitated on Canadian Bus
A man has stabbed and decapitated a fellow passenger on a Canadian bus, displaying the head to horrified passengers, according to police and witnesses.

A 40-year-old man was taken into custody on a remote stretch of Canadian motorway about 20km from the town of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, but has not been charged, Canadian police said on Thursday.

"All of a sudden, we all heard this scream, this bloodcurdling scream," said Garnet Caton, who was sitting just in front of the victim on the bus when the attacked occurred overnight on Wednesday.

Caton said that when the attack was over, the man displayed his victim's severed head to the other passengers.

"The attacker was standing up right over top of the guy with a large hunting knife - a survival, Rambo knife - holding the guy and continually stabbing him, stabbing him, stabbing him in the chest area," Caton told CBC Television.

'Like a robot'

The attack continued as other passengers fled the bus and waited for police, Caton said.

Caton said he, the driver and another passenger desperately tried to hold the bus door closed to prevent the attacker from leaving.

"He calmly walks up to the front [of the bus] with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us," Caton said.

"There was no rage in him ... It was just like he was a robot or something."

Sergeant Steve Colwell of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they apprehended the man when he broke a window and tried to escape from the bus by jumping out.

Passengers said the attacker did not seem to know the victim, who appeared to be about 19-years-old.

Warped Tour 08 fashion!

Yes i know, i have slacked my hoods, just got back from Reno where i was at for the last 5 days, Prior to that i went to Vans Warped Tour in St. Helens OR (farmland) for free thanks to my homie in Seattle's Fall From Grace, Kenny B, hooking up the VIP status! Appreciated bro!
Anyway, it radically occurred to me how much of a role fashion plays at this punk-rock-pop tour for kids! I felt old, outta place, and unsure of what to do with myself at times, i am a performer, however i was not performing, i was simply a "fan" deprived of identity, nevertheless i enjoyed the vast array of people, more so than the bands in fact.
I snapped a few pics of the kids who were holding it down for Warped Tour before my camera died. One things for sure, this tour is all about making money, and so it does with a zealous onslaught of goodies for the kiddies!

hella drunk rockin' the blockbuster letters

inebriated with an open mouth...danger

uncertainty, while hipster with painted-on jeans attempts to cash in on flipflops

lots of chucks everywhere!

lots of stupid sunglasses...everywhere

her potential myspace photo with Tryg (fall from grace) isn't flying, nor are her new orange booty shorts...which were everywhere

these dudes are repping extreme fashion, a weed bandana, a white doo rag on a white boy, cocked hat, kanye wannabee glasses which prevent accurate vision, and undertones of mid-puberty...perfect!

this couple had no shame about themselves and were pleased to pose with pride. Rockabilly meets Nickelback, love it!

and here's my favorite guy strolling among teens with a Fat Albert tee while reminiscing about Woodstock, he stopped and posed like a king!

It just happens to be one of the greatest songs to break to!

The Mexican performed by Babe Ruth via 74' murders bboys!
You should check it out and attempt to find them on vinyl, best of luck...
There are 3 versions i posted below:
The first is the actual version by Babe Ruth live in 74. Shredding guitars is a must!
The second is the disco/dance version of The Mexican by The Bombers during the mid-disco era.
The third is a breakbeat/electro version by 35 Jellybean who actually had the lead singer re-record for the track during 84.

*if you ever hear this cut during a bboy battle, it'll sound just a little tweaked, slowed down a bit, yet still an incredible break . . .
